Code of Conduct

theCircle exists on a simple idea: everyone deserves a seat at the table. That only works if the room is one where people feel safe, welcome and able to speak. This applies to everyone at our events — attendees, speakers, organisers, sponsors and guests.

What we expect

  • Treat people with respect. Assume good intent, listen properly, and give others room to speak.
  • Be welcoming. People come to theCircle at every stage of their career. No question is too basic.
  • Be considerate. Disagree with ideas, not with people. Debate is welcome; hostility is not.
  • Respect privacy. Do not photograph, record or share someone without asking.
  • Look after the space. Follow the venue's rules and leave it as you found it.

What is not acceptable

  • Harassment, intimidation or discrimination of any kind, including on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, religion or background.
  • Unwelcome sexual attention, comments or imagery.
  • Personal insults, deliberate humiliation, or sustained disruption of talks and conversations.
  • Following, photographing or recording someone against their wishes.
  • Aggressive recruitment or sales pitches to people who have not asked.

Reporting

If something makes you uncomfortable, tell us. Speak to any organiser at the event — we wear name badges — or email hello@thecirclemcr.com at any time, during or after.

Reports are taken seriously and handled discreetly. We will listen, we will not press you to interact with anyone you would rather avoid, and we will tell you what we intend to do. You will never be penalised for raising something in good faith.

Consequences

Organisers may take any action they judge appropriate, including a warning, asking someone to stop, or requiring them to leave. Serious cases may result in being barred from future events, and where relevant we will involve the venue or the police.

Scope

This code applies at our events and in theCircle's online spaces, and to conduct connected to the community, including behaviour towards other members outside events.
